DDP Project Caching

DDP Project Caching

Project Caching is a unique feature of the A/V FS file system developed by Ardis Technologies, the manufacturer of the DDP. A/V FS is included in all purchased DDP systems. No extra licences are required.

Project Caching truly shines when a DDP system is equipped with both SSDs and HDDs. This allows you to combine the best of both worlds: the performance of SSDs with the larger and more affordable storage capacity of HDDs.

How does it work?

When an SSD pack is installed, this Data Location can be used as a file-based cache. Files ingested to the cache are automatically copied to the HDDs. With the A/V FS file system, the cache and the hard disks within the DDP behave as one integrated system. Each file within A/V FS can exist in the cache and on hard disks simultaneously.

As soon as the files are no longer needed in the fast cache, they are simply retrieved from the hard drives. This allows you to make optimal use of storage space and stay as close as possible to the planned budget.

With Project Caching, you can choose the SSD size for Project Caching and hard disk capacity independently in a DDP. For each project, a (sub)folder structure and a cache method for this (sub)folder is created. This way, the cache can be used most efficiently, as only the necessary files are stored there.

Internally, files can be moved, copied, duplicated, redistributed, and consolidated between different data locations in various ways, all transparently for the user. The Project Caching bandwidth can be from 1GB/s to 40GB/s and beyond depending on type and quantity of the SSDs.
