VSF Technical Recommendation 03. Transport of Uncompressed Elementary Stream Media over IP.
Unlike SMPTE 2022-6 which binds video, audio, and ancillary data into the Serial Digital Interface (SDI) multiplex before encapsulation in IP, VSF-03 provides encapsulating of video, audio, and ancillary data as separate elementary RTP streams that can be individually forwarded through a network. In order to synchronize the streams, devices will need an accurate time reference. PTP (Precision Time Protocol – IEEE 1588) is used to synchronize reference clocks which can be used to insert and later compare RTP timestamps. TR-03 allows for both uncompressed and compressed streams (the compression is not defined).
